Texas (KBTX) – A coordinated “bank jugging” operation that spanned multiple counties has resulted in robbery charges against a 20-year-old Houston man accused of ambushing a local restaurant manager outside his business
According to a College Station Police Department report, Desmond Derrail Williams, 20, is facing felony robbery charges for his alleged role as a getaway driver in an April 3, 2026, robbery that targeted the manager of a College Station restaurant.
According to police records, the victim had just withdrawn an envelope of cash from the Bank of America on University Drive East shortly before 3 p.m. When the victim pulled his pickup truck into the parking lot outside his restaurant, an attacker ran up from behind, shoved him to the ground and took the envelope full of cash.
A witness reported seeing the attacker — later identified by investigators as Kaiden Dawson — flee on foot and jump into the rear passenger seat of a silver SUV, which sped east on Harvey Road toward State Highway 6.
Rental car trail and multiagency investigation
City traffic surveillance footage and automated license plate readers revealed the victim had been followed by two out-of-state rental vehicles traveling in tandem: a white Chevrolet Trax with New Jersey plates and a silver Jeep Compass with Tennessee plates.
Three days after the robbery, the Houston Police Department’s Eastside Tactical Team arrested Jonathan Williams, Desmond’s uncle, out of the white Trax in Harris County on an outstanding felony bank jugging warrant. Investigators discovered the Trax had been rented by Jonathan’s girlfriend, Barrella Jacob, who admitted to detectives that she regularly rented vehicles for him despite knowing he was unemployed and had a history of bank jugging arrests.
Records also revealed College Station police had interacted with Desmond Williams and Dawson just hours before the robbery, around 11:43 a.m. on April 3, when their rented Jeep Compass slid into a ditch during a motorist assist call. Because neither had a valid driver’s license, Jacob was called to take possession of the vehicle before the group resumed tracking targets.
Digital fingerprints: Open calls and live location shares
A forensic extraction of Jonathan Williams’ cellphone provided detectives with a digital blueprint of the operation:
- Real-time surveillance: Bank security cameras showed Jonathan Williams entering the Bank of America lobby at 2:36 p.m. to scout customers, leaving moments before the victim walked out with the cash envelope.
- Live tracking: At 2:12 p.m., Dawson initiated a live GPS location share directly to Jonathan Williams’ phone.
- Open phone line: Phone records revealed Desmond Williams and Jonathan Williams remained on an active, continuous two-hour phone call starting at 1:02 p.m., keeping open communications throughout the tail and subsequent robbery.
- Dispute over the money: Text messages recovered between Jonathan Williams (“Unc”) and Desmond Williams (“Nep Dez”) days after the robbery showed Jonathan Williams accusing Desmond Williams and Dawson of withholding stolen money.
Affidavits state Jonathan Williams, Desmond Williams and Dawson acted in concert to surveil, stalk and rob the victim, while Jacob acted as an accomplice by knowingly providing the rental vehicles used in the crime.
Williams was charged with robbery and booked into the Brazos County Jail on Friday, Sept. 25. His bond was set at $50,000, and jail records show he was released later that day.
