SOXL Net Purchase of $400 Million…#2’s 3X
SOXX is also #3 with $55.16 million
AMD, Intel, and TSMC are also in the top ranks
The funds of Seo Hak-ant, who invests in the U.S. stock market, have recently been focused on semiconductor exchange-traded funds (ETF). While leveraged ETFs, which triple the daily yield of the semiconductor index, ranked first in net purchases of overseas stocks, buying was also concentrated on ETFs and individual semiconductor companies that invest in the semiconductor industry as a whole. As the threshold for investment in Samsung Electronics (Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix) leverage ETFs in Korea has risen, some are turning to the U.S.
According to the Korea Securities Depository’s securities information portal Savro on the 12th, the largest net purchase by domestic investors on the 5th and 9th was the “Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bulldo ETF” (SOXL). The net purchase settlement amounted to $393.92 million. It is more than three times the net purchase amount ($115.79 million) of the second-place “iShares 0-3-month U.S. Treasury ETF.”
SOXL is a high-risk product that trimesters the daily yield of the U.S. semiconductor-related index. It is interpreted as reflecting the demand for investment to actively bet on the short-term rise of the semiconductor industry.
Funding also poured into general semiconductor ETFs. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), which invests in U.S. semiconductor companies, ranked third overall with a net purchase of $55.16 million during the same period. The net purchase amount of the two products SOXL and SOXX alone amounts to $449.08 million.
Buying in individual semiconductor companies was also noticeable. AMD ranked sixth with a net purchase of $45.29 million, Intel ranked ninth with $34.36 million, and Taiwan’s TSMC ranked 10th with $33.22 million. Major semiconductor companies, as well as semiconductor ETFs, were listed in the top 10 net purchases.
Changes appear compared to investment targets from September 28th to October 2nd. Tesla was the top net buyer of overseas stocks at the time, with $59.28 million, followed by SanDisk with $54.2 million and Meta with $44.73 million. On the other hand, interest in the semiconductor industry was highlighted again last week as semiconductor leveraged ETFs ranked first in overwhelming net purchases. It is interpreted that the demand to invest not only in the stock price rise of individual companies but also in the overall rise of the semiconductor industry led to the purchase of ETFs.
