Karnataka’s Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has seized medicines from two storage facilities linked to Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd. The department alleges that the premises held drugs without a valid licence.

Amazon argued before the Karnataka High Court that it qualifies for safe-harbour protection under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, in a case involving the alleged sale of pirated copies of the late journalist Ravi Belagere’s novel on its platform. The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has recommended that the Central Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) suspend the food licences of Amazon, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket over the sale of datura fruits and seeds as food products, Health Minister U.T. Khader said on Wednesday.
