Anthropic is introducing a new AI assistant that can proactively manage tasks across connected apps, keep track of emails and calendars, and continue working even when the app is closed. Here are the details.

At OpenAI’s DevDay event on Tuesday, the company announced the launch of Dots, a new personal agentic assistant powered by GPT-6 Astra. The company describes Dots as “remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything.”

OpenAI is putting always-on agents inside ChatGPT that can take on marketing work in the apps a team already uses.OpenAI calls them dots, and each one can connect to over 4,000 apps through ChatGPT’s plugins.

At today’s Dev Days announcement, OpenAI introduced a new service that promises to provide enormous productivity benefits and probably some massive headaches. Called Dots, the service is basically a cloud-based virtual machine (VM) on which you can spin up AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra.

OpenAI is moving beyond the familiar chatbot model with Dots, a new kind of persistent AI agent designed to keep working after an employee closes the chat window — monitoring projects, using software, responding to changing information and bringing completed work back for approval.
