Sutherland Security Incident: What Happened?
Sutherland Healthcare Solutions, a major healthcare technology and services provider, has reported a data breach that may have exposed the information of individuals whose claims were processed by Sutherland on behalf of their health insurance company.
According to a sample notification letter sent to potentially affected individuals, shown below, Sutherland recently became aware of access to claims-related information by an unauthorized individual who acted as a company employee and accessed data at various points between July 29, 2024, and July 10, 2026. Sutherland then initiated an investigation with its health insurance clients to determine what data may have been affected by the access.
On August 24, 2026, Sutherland determined that the unauthorized worker may have been able to access records containing names, addresses, genders, dates of birth, health plan information and member IDs, Social Security numbers and health insurance claims data (such as healthcare providers, dates of service, diagnoses, procedures and treatment information).
The Sutherland Healthcare Solutions data breach was additionally reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on November 2, 2026.
