S.C. (WTOC) – Sparklight presented a $7,500 check to the James Fisher Memorial Foundation YMCA on Wednesday to help the facility start new childcare services
The internet and cable company’s donation will help the YMCA cover startup costs, including furniture, classroom supplies, learning materials and state licensing requirements.
Julie Kuhns, development director, said the grant addresses a need among young working families in the area.
“This is going towards childcare. We have a lot of startup needs. We have young families that are living here that are still a part of workforce. And starting up childcare can be expensive. You buy all new supplies, all new equipment, all new curriculums, and licensure.”
Sparklight also brought popsicles and school supplies to help local students get settled into the new school year.
The YMCA said the grant will help it open its doors to more families who need a safe, affordable place for their children while they are at work.
