Seo In-young’s fashionable oldie, Seo In-young, expressed her thoughts on the prenuptial contract.
In the fourth episode of the T-Cast E-channel entertainment program “Seo In-young’s Trendy Kkondae” (directed by Lee Ji-sun, produced by Studio Brave), Park Min-chul, a divorce lawyer, appeared as a daily specialist.
On this day, Seo In-young was solemn about the theme of “divorce” but confessed her experiences and thoughts honestly. Mimi Minu recently introduced ‘separation alimony’, which has become a hot topic among the MZ generation. Seo In-young said, “It’s awesome. That’s too much. A man who thought marriage was difficult after a long-term relationship wanted to give 50 million won to his girlfriend.” But I’m willing to receive it,” he said, drawing laughter.
Subsequently, when lawyer Park Min-chul appeared, Seo In-young was glad, saying, “I should have met you before.” Lawyer Park Min-chul responded, “You can’t meet anymore.” Seo In-young said, “I want to be close to you. A man doesn’t know what’s going to happen. I didn’t know I’d get divorced either. But everyone knew except me,” he added, turning the scene into a sea of laughter.
Divorce of world-class wealthy people and astronomical property division were also introduced. Microsoft founder Bill Gates divorced after 27 years of marriage and was estimated to have split his assets worth about 80 trillion won at the time, while Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was introduced to hand over shares worth about 40 trillion won to his ex-spouse.
The case of divorce of Korean conglomerates was also addressed. In addition to the divorce lawsuit between SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Art Center Director Noh So-young, a lawsuit against Smilegate Chief Vision Presentation Officer Kwon Hyuk-bin was also introduced. In particular, the lawsuit by Kwon Hyuk-bin, the chief vision presentation officer, was reportedly sentenced to a property division worth about 2.55 trillion won in the first trial, which was surprising.
Lawyer Park Min-chul also delivered a “real-world tip” to prepare for the division of property in case of divorce. He explained that writing a diary recording parenting and housework and sharing it with a spouse in a message can also be data to prove their contribution to property formation. He then pointed out the positive aspects of the record, saying, “It also has the effect of making marriage faithful and eliminating problems.”
Prenuptial contracts from overseas celebrities also drew attention. Among them, it was revealed that Seo In-young ranked first in a survey of “celebrities who are likely to write a prenuptial contract” conducted by a marriage information company in 2010. Seo In-young said, “It’s only changed now, and in the middle of the year, I thought I had to write it unconditionally. It’s a good look. But when I got married, I couldn’t write it. I hit the ground and regretted it. Make sure to use it,” he confessed.
An example of soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo’s prenuptial contract was also introduced. In the event of divorce, Ronaldo’s property was excluded from the division, and the spouse was paid 100,000 euros per month for ownership of the Madrid mansion. In the case of YouTuber Mr. Beast’s prenuptial contract, a clause was introduced that limits rights to YouTube profits and shares, and pays about 7.3 billion won for extramarital affairs.
Seo In-young said about the clause she wanted to put in if she wrote a prenuptial contract, “I used to earn more than 10 billion won. I think I will definitely use a clause not to touch my money,” he said. It also introduced the obligation to maintain dignity and penalties included in celebrities’ advertising contracts. Lawyer Park Min-chul explained that there are cases in which hair styles and weight maintenance obligations are included in the terms of the contract.
I also looked at marriage contracts in history. About 4,000 years ago, a clay tablet found in Turkiye recorded the couple’s name, witnesses, and alimony to be paid in case of divorce. It was also surprising to see the introduction of a clause that allows women slaves to be hired as surrogates if they do not have children for two years after marriage.
Cases of absurd alimony claims were also disclosed. The cast was surprised by the introduction of a case in which they claimed about 13 million won when their blind date did not show up at the meeting place, and a case in which they claimed about 23 million won in alimony after seeing their wife’s bare face the day after the wedding.
There have also been cases of unique property division. The court ruled in favor of the wife in a case in which the husband insisted on discarding the frozen embryos and the wife insisted on storing them. It also introduced cases in which actor William Shatner’s divorce agreement stipulated ownership of expensive stallions and a couple with large assets quarreled over a 67,000 won toaster oven.
At the end of the broadcast, lawyer Park Min-chul said, “It is so interesting and helpful in practice to deal with unique and bizarre cases abroad while dealing with only actual cases in Korea.” Seo In-young said, “I feel stuffy like I ate sweet potatoes. I should think carefully about it,” he said, expressing his feelings about the divorce.
Meanwhile, Seo In-young, who had been a solo artist since her debut with the group Jewelry in 2002, married a non-celebrity businessman nine years her senior in February 2023, but agreed to divorce in November 2024, about a year and nine months later.
