The project concluded during the New Horizons 2026 event, held at the University of Jordan Academy in Amman, with the participation of startups, investors, private-sector representatives, and entrepreneurship-support institutions.
The event focused on enhancing growth and business sustainability opportunities for startups by connecting them with investors and potential business partners, exploring new commercial and investment opportunities, and building on the project’s results to sustain its impact beyond the implementation period.
Launched in 2022, the Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Economic Development and Employment project supported 697 startups, including 427 women-led companies. Beneficiary companies reported creating 748 decent jobs, while 350 companies confirmed that they had achieved business growth.
The project, jointly funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), is part of efforts to implement Jordan’s National Entrepreneurship Policy (2021–2027), which aims to develop the Kingdom’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, improve startups’ access to financing and markets, and facilitate doing business.
Samirrat stressed that supporting entrepreneurship and enabling startups to grow and expand are national priorities in achieving the objectives of the Economic Modernisation Vision, particularly by stimulating private-sector growth, creating jobs, and strengthening the contribution of entrepreneurial companies to the national economy.
He said the project helped translate the priorities of the National Entrepreneurship Policy into practical programs by supporting startups and expanding the range of services and opportunities available to entrepreneurs in the governorates.
He also stressed the importance of building on the project’s results and continuing cooperation with partners to strengthen the sustainability of startups and help them access new markets.
For her part, Anne-Laure Roche-Rou, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Jordan, said the project contributed to strengthening the local entrepreneurship ecosystem by supporting the entrepreneurship networks in Aqaba and the northern region, covering Jerash and Mafraq.
She said the project also strengthened cooperation among government institutions, universities, municipalities, and the private sector, helping entrepreneurs access services and business partners in their respective governorates.
She added that the benefits achieved for women entrepreneurs deserve particular attention. The Angels Investors Club and the planned launch of a national women’s entrepreneurship network are tangible achievements that can help women access new networks, acquire knowledge, and benefit from new opportunities to grow their businesses.
“These are results worth celebrating, and the European Union is proud to support them,” she said.
Roche-Rou added that the project supported the ministry in developing a system to monitor and evaluate entrepreneurship-related interventions, while also contributing to simplifying procedures for doing business and strengthening the capacities of public-sector employees involved in supporting entrepreneurship.
The New Horizons 2026 event included targeted business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking meetings, supported by ICON-INSTITUTE GmbH, bringing startups together with investors, buyers, suppliers, and potential partners.
The event also featured presentations by participating companies to showcase their products and services and explore commercial and investment cooperation opportunities.
For his part, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Jordan Sonke Lorenz said the event provides an opportunity to build on the project’s results by strengthening direct communication between startups and the private sector.
He highlighted the importance of integrating national policies with entrepreneurship-support programs to enable companies to grow and expand.
He added that the value of the event lies in its potential to attract new customers, build relationships with suppliers and investors, and establish commercial and investment partnerships that continue beyond the end of the project, supporting the objectives of the National Entrepreneurship Policy and the Economic Modernisation Vision.
The event also highlighted the project’s key achievements, success stories from several beneficiary startups, and opportunities to build on its results during the next phase.
