The acquisition took place as part of the provisional debt restructuring moratorium for “DeinDeal,” as the company announced on Friday. The Zurich District Court approved the transaction on October 9. Some of the employees were offered the opportunity to continue working for the new owner.
“DeinDeal” currently has about 60 employees on its payroll, some of whom have already been furloughed, a spokeswoman for the AWP news agency said in response to an inquiry. It remains to be seen how many of them will be retained and how many will lose their jobs.
“DeinDeal” offers products, travel, and services at discounted prices—according to its own advertising, in some cases up to 70 percent off the original online retail price. The portal became known primarily for its limited-time discount promotions and coupons for offers from partner companies.
Realdeals is a company based in French-speaking Switzerland owned by entrepreneur Gabriel Burger. It markets limited-time discount offers for leisure activities, restaurants, hotels, and wellness services, among other things. With this acquisition, Realdeals aims to expand into German-speaking Switzerland and reposition the “DeinDeal” brand starting in 2027.
“DeinDeal” had been placed under provisional bankruptcy protection in August due to financial difficulties. Founded in 2010, the portal was formerly owned by Ringier and was sold to the German investment firm Liberta Partners in 2024. At that time, it generated annual revenue of over 100 million Swiss francs.
The former DeinDeal AG will continue to sell its inventory through the end of November. This is also intended to protect the interests of its creditors.
