Meet Cory Scott, Managing Partner @ Ripcord and PVMG Holdings
Scott’s previous startup company, LiveBy, was acquired in 2021. After his time scaling the real estate data platform based in Lincoln, he went on to pursue consulting work through Ripcord and his passion for boating and lake life through PVMG Holdings.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur or support other entrepreneurs?
Not sure if it was inspiration or necessity. I realized early in my professional career out of college I was not great at working for someone else or operating on their pace of play.
I wanted to change and innovate everything around me, and it became clear I needed to control my own destiny.
What advice would you give yourself if you could go back in time to when you were just starting out?
- Expand your investor network outside of the local community as fast as possible.
- If things suddenly start to slow down without notice in the midst of an M&A event, activate Plan B immediately.
- Always have a Plan B, C and D at all times.
How do you stay motivated when things feel overwhelming — or stagnant?
Refuse to give up. Period.
I believe destined entrepreneurs are built that way and do not require more motivation than that.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome and how did you overcome it?
Escaping an early acquisition event that nearly bled the company dry and shut our doors. It’s a blur how we overcame it, but we raised enough money in 30 days with our backs against the wall.
How can the Nebraska community support you?
Continue to strategize around and act on creating more local funding mechanisms, both private and public. Nebraska’s biggest challenge in supporting the next growth-stage startups and big exits is purely more dollars to accelerate.
