The founder of a Pittsburgh-based digital storage solutions company donated $35,000 worth of equipment to Seton Hill’s cybersecurity and computer science programs.
Gene Leyzarovich, former Jetstor CEO, founded the Bloomfield company more than 30 years ago while studying at the University of Pittsburgh and working night shifts at UPMC. The Russian refugee serves on Seton Hill’s inaugural School of Business and Technology Advisory Board.
Leyzarovich spoke with students in Seton Hill’s Computer Networks: Wired & Wireless class Tuesday morning, covering physical infrastructure, network media, shared storage and enterprise architecture.
His donation includes two enterprise grade storage systems and a five-year warranty program for each. The equipment will replace older, slower technology supporting the university’s cyber range, allowing more students to simultaneously conduct large-scale labs and cyber simulations.
“As someone who came to this country as a refugee and founded JetStor while studying and working in Pittsburgh, I understand the difference that access to real-world experience can make,” Leyzarovich told students and faculty. “I hope this gift helps students see what is possible and gives them the tools, experience and confidence to pursue it.”
