The University of South Carolina announced Thursday (June 11) the appointment of Anne
Peters as its new vice president for marketing following a national search. She will
begin at USC on Sept. 1.
Peters brings more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience to the
role, most recently serving as associate vice president for marketing and special
projects at the University of Texas San Antonio. At USC, she will serve as the chief
marketing officer for the state’s flagship research university and will lead the Columbia
campus’ integrated marketing and brand strategy.
“Anne is a proven leader whose success in building strong institutional brands will
be a great asset to USC,” President Michael Amiridis said. “Her experience leading
transformative marketing initiatives and her deep understanding of higher education
will elevate USC’s reputation for delivering exceptional education, research, student
life and community engagement.”
While at UT San Antonio, Peters led enterprise marketing and reputation-building efforts
that helped elevate the university’s visibility and public perception during a period
of significant institutional momentum, including achieving Carnegie R1 status, record-high
enrollment and the successful completion of a capital campaign. She also provided
communications and branding leadership for the integration of UT San Antonio and UT
Health San Antonio, creating the third-largest research university in Texas through
one of the most significant university mergers in U.S. history.
Prior to joining UT San Antonio, Peters served as director of marketing and assistant
director of admissions at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont. She earned her bachelor’s
degree in communications from Stanford University and a master’s degree in higher
education administration from the University of Vermont.
“The University of South Carolina is one of the nation’s most respected public universities,
with extraordinary momentum and a powerful story to tell,” Peters said. “I am honored
to join the Gamecock family at such an exciting time and eager to begin building relationships
across the university. Throughout the search process, I was inspired by the passion,
ambition and pride of the USC community, and I look forward to partnering with faculty,
staff, students, alumni and supporters to advance USC’s aspirations and further elevate
the reputation of this remarkable institution.”
