Account-to-account payments are about to meet the agentic-commerce age with a new partnership between Sionic, a bank-to-bank payments provider, and Agentix, an agentic-commerce technology firm.
In the deal, Atlanta-based Sionic will supply an artificial-intelligence shopping agentwith its Bank Perks to enable payment directly from a user’s bank account. Bank Perks is a financial institution-branded digital representation of the payer’s checking account, stored natively in Apple or Google wallets, Ronald Herman, Sionic founder and chief executive, tells Digital Transactions News. In physical settings it can render a one-time use QR code for payments and supports tap-to-pay transactions.
San Francisco-based Agentix is providing the merchant inventories in a transaction-ready and machine-readable view can use for discovery and to make transactions against
The service, which is live now, enables users to pay by bank in real time for purchases they’ve assigned to the Sionic agent using Sionic’s Instant Bank Pay service. Most agentic commerce services rely on credit cards for payment.
“Initially, Instant Bank Pay and [the] associated Fraud Detection Service will be offered in a [software-as-a-service] model through cloud partners,” Herman says. “Any consumer wanting to use a personalized shopping agent can enable and set parameters at their discretion. It is not bank or merchant dependent.”
Its Fraud Detection Service was developed by Sionic and Google, he says, to protect Instant Bank Pay transactions. Transactions are analyzed within milliseconds before they are submitted to payment rails, and payers are required to approve the purchase before the payment is submitted.
The pay-by-bank service is free for consumers, while merchants pay a fee to receive instant cash deposits, Herman says. That fee is typically 60% less than comparable credit card processing fees, he says.
The service will help merchants grow with this evolution of e-commerce, Hussain Punjani, Agentix chief executive, says in a statement. It will help merchants open a new revenue channel while giving them and financial institutions a competitive edge, Punjani adds.
