Pass Christian, Miss. (WLOX) — Dozens of people attended the Pass Christian Market Saturday morning as the market celebrated its 20th birthday.
Allyson Smith, a vendor with Ally Cat Pet Accessories, said the market has lasted 20 years because people are able to get locally made products.
“They like to know where it’s made, how it’s made,” Smith said.
The market includes arts and crafts, pickled and jarred goods, food, lemonade, woodworking and activities for children.
Chad Truxillo, a vendor with The Coastal Cajun, said the market is more than just the products sold there.
“It’s the spending time together and friends running into friends, families running into families, and just enjoying a Saturday morning in the park,” Truxillo said.
The market was established one year after Hurricane Katrina. Organizers say it continues to be a place for the community to come together.
“I think that’s what some of the world is missing today, is community,” Truxillo said. “Remembering what’s most important, family, friends, making memories, and it’s good for Pass Christian.”
Members of the Ingram family said they value the weekly gathering.
“It’s nice just every weekend to have your neighbors, your friends, the people you see at dinner, like in a morning environment,” the Ingram family said.
The market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and gives local vendors a chance to showcase their products and meet new customers.
Smith said the market is her favorite.
“I come here at most every Saturday, almost here every Saturday, and I have had a lot of success,” Smith said.
