Omaha police investigate ‘gun battle’ in the Old Market
Omaha police arrested multiple individuals after a shooting near 12th and Howard Street early Sunday morning that left one man injured.
Omaha police are investigating a shooting near 12th and Howard Streets early Sunday morning that left one man injured and resulted in several arrests.
OPD said officers were already in the area when they heard “…what sounded like a gun battle” moving eastbound shortly after 1 a.m. As they responded, hundreds of people and several vehicles were seen fleeing in all directions.
A 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound was located. Officers say they placed a tourniquet on his leg, then medics took him to the Nebraska Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the response and investigation, police made several arrests:
- A 33-year-old man was arrested for a felony warrant and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
- A 22-year-old man was arrested for four outstanding warrants and charges related to leading officers on a pursuit during the incident.
- A 16-year-old girl was street-released for assaulting an officer.
- Multiple arrests were made for obstructing and disorderly conduct after people tore down crime scene tape and entered the crime scene.
Two cars with firearms in plain view were also impounded.
