Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is reportedly holding talks about investing in artificial intelligence startup Perplexity through a new financing round that could value the company at more than $30 billion
The discussions centre on a funding round potentially worth several billion dollars, with Nvidia among the prospective investors, the report said, citing people familiar with the negotiations.
If completed at the reported valuation, the financing would represent an increase of more than 50% compared with Perplexity’s previous fundraising round about a year ago. Reports at the time valued the AI company at approximately $20 billion.
Perplexity Revenue Growth Accelerates
The potential Nvidia investment comes as commercial ties between the two companies have strengthened and Perplexity has recorded rapid revenue growth.
According to The Information, Perplexity’s annualised revenue has climbed above $750 million, compared with less than $250 million at the beginning of the year.
That represents a substantial acceleration in the startup’s commercial performance as demand for generative AI products and autonomous software tools continues to expand.
Perplexity Computer Helps Drive Expansion
Part of the revenue increase has reportedly been supported by Perplexity Computer, an AI agent designed to help professional users automate tasks performed on computers.
The product forms part of Perplexity’s broader push beyond its AI-powered search capabilities and into agent-based software capable of performing more complex workflows on behalf of users.
The rapid adoption of such products could help explain the significant increase in Perplexity’s proposed valuation as investors continue seeking exposure to fast-growing AI platforms.
Nvidia Deepens Its Exposure to AI Ecosystem
A potential investment would further expand Nvidia’s presence across the artificial intelligence ecosystem beyond its core semiconductor operations.
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has become a central supplier of computing infrastructure for AI developers, while strategic investments can give the company additional exposure to businesses building applications and services on top of increasingly powerful AI systems.
Neither the reported investment nor the valuation has been confirmed as a completed transaction, with discussions still ongoing
