The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is seeking candidates for awards for individuals and groups that have contributed to economic revitalization and job creation in regions facing a crisis of local population decline. It plans to accept applications from Oct. 10 through Oct. 31 and present citations in November.
According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Noh Yong-seok, first vice minister acting as minister, hereafter referred to as the ministry) on the 9th, it is accepting applications from Oct. 10 through Oct. 31 for candidates for the “2026 Awards for Meritorious Service in Response to Local Population Decline.”
The awards are designed to identify individuals, as well as small and midsize businesses, and organizations and groups, that have contributed to efforts to counter local population decline, including creating local jobs and expanding the number of people living in the area.
The award consists of nine ministerial citations from the ministry. Individuals, small and midsize businesses, or organizations and groups with meritorious contributions to revitalizing local economies in regions at risk of population decline can apply.
The ministry plans to confirm the award candidates after reviewing the submitted recommendations and conducting an evaluation by a public service appraisal committee. The citations will be presented at the “2026 Korea SMEs Convergence Day,” scheduled to be held in November.
The application period runs from Aug. 10 through Aug. 31. More details can be checked through a public notice posted on the ministry’s online portal from Oct. 10, and guidance is also available from the Korea Technology and Credit Guarantee Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprises.
