Metairie is ranked No. 4 in the nation among the most affordable cities for tech startups in <a href="https://bitcomme.com/new-ecommerce-tools-july-22-2026/” title=”New Ecommerce Tools: July 22, 2026″>2026, according to a new study.
The study analyzed 609 U.S. cities using factors including cost of living, employment opportunities, government support for startups, quality of life and housing affordability. Metairie earned an overall score of 64.86 out of 100.
Researchers said Metairie offers entrepreneurs access to the larger New Orleans market while maintaining the lower costs associated with a smaller city. The city is located about 12 minutes from New Orleans, which provides easy access to business resources, transportation networks and a growing regional startup ecosystem.
The report also highlighted that startup activity connected to Tulane University, digital media companies and energy technology ventures were factors in its high score.
Metairie received a housing affordability score of 99.88, one of its strongest performance categories. Additional scores included:

The three cities ranked above Metairie were Joplin, Missouri; Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Rankings were based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, Small Business Administration and CDC.
The report noted that rising costs in traditional tech hubs are prompting some startups to consider smaller, more affordable cities where operating expenses and employee living costs are lower.
