FREEPORT, Maine (WGME) — A Maine hospitality company is facing a proposed class-action lawsuit after a cyberattack exposed the personal information of more than 7,100 people.
According to a data breach notice filed with the <a href="https://www.maine.gov/ag/consumer-protection/data-security-breaches” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Maine Attorney General’s Officelast week, Maine Course Hospitality Groupdiscovered unauthorized access to its computer systems in November 2025. The company said the breach affected 7,108 people, including 3,989 Maine residents.
The company said the compromised information may include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and other personal information.
Maine Course Hospitality Group owns and manages dozens of hotels across Maine, New England and New York, including the Courtyard by Marriott in Portland’s Old Port.
A class-action lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Maine alleges the company failed to adequately protect customers’ sensitive personal information and waited about nine months after discovering the cyberattack before notifying those affected.

The lawsuit also alleges the delay violated Maine’s data breach notification law, which generally requires businesses to notify affected individuals without unreasonable delay and, in most cases, within 30 days of discovering a breach.
The plaintiff is seeking class-action status on behalf of everyone whose information was compromised, as well as damages and other relief.
In its data breach notice, Maine Course Hospitality Group said it is offering one year of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected individuals.
The CBS13 I-Team reached out to the company for comment on the lawsuit and the data breach but did not receive a response.
