To save the most during extended Labor Day sales, experts I talked to recommend focusing on a few key categories: summer-related products, mattresses, furniture, major appliances and warm-weather fashion. Below, I curated a list of the best Labor Day deals still live and answered all your saving and spending questions, including why you should avoid buying tech right now.

Best Labor Day deals 2026
The Little Green Max spot-cleans stains and removes dirt from your furniture and carpets. The Brooks Ghost Max is one of my favorite walking shoes for women and men due to its thick layer of soft cushioning that keeps my feet comfortable for hours whether I’m exercising, commuting or running errands around town. It’s also ideal to wear for casual runs and when you’re standing for long periods of time. The Ghost Max, which earned the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Seal of Acceptance, has a curved outsole that makes your heel-to-toe transitions as smooth as possible, as well as a wide, stabilizing base.
Toast, bake, broil, and warm up food with this countertop appliance, which helps you feed a crowd — it fits up to six slices of bread, an 11-inch pizza or a family-sized casserole. You can adjust its mode, temperature and toast shade using the dials, and the toaster oven automatically shuts off when the timer goes off. In toast mode, the oven monitors its temperature and automatically adjusts cooking time to ensure consistent results.
Labor Day is typically known for its deals on major home appliances, but there are plenty of strong discounts on smaller ones, especially those that revolve around cleaning. Shark makes some of the best cordless vacuums, including this model, which has a 4.2-star average rating from more than 16,000 Amazon customers (at the time of publishing).
The vacuum has LED headlights to help you spot dirt and pet hair, and powerful suction to get rid of it. It also senses the type of floor you’re cleaning to automatically adjust its settings accordingly. You get 40 minutes of runtime on a full battery, according to the brand. You can convert the appliance to a handheld vacuum, letting you attach the included crevice and pet-multi tools when you want to clean stairs, windowsills or between couch cushions.
Retailers drop prices on summer clothing during their Labor Day sales to get rid of warm weather apparel and make room for fall styles, says Vipin Porwal, CEO and consumer savings expert at Smarty, a shopping and rewards platform. I use this as an opportunity to stock up on basics like this Old Navy T-shirt, which I add to my cart every time it’s on sale. I wear it while temperatures are still high and layer under sweaters once it’s chilly out. The shirt has a relaxed fix that’s not too tight or baggy, gets softer with every wash and hits right below my hips, so I can tuck it in if I want to. It fits true-to-size, too.
My Samsonite luggage is still in great condition after I’ve taken it on numerous trips, overstuffed it and beat it up in transit. This set comes with a carry-on suitcase and medium checked bag, both of which have hard, scratch-resistant exteriors, smooth spinner wheels, multiple handles and interior organization pockets. There’s also a TSA-approved luggage lock built into the checked bag.
In addition to summer apparel, retailers are putting outdoor gear on clearance, like this chair. It’ll serve you well at the beach next year, but for now, take it tailgating, camping and to kids’ sports games, or set it up on the patio or in the backyard at home. The cushioned chair has a four-can cooler, a mesh cup holder and a side pocket, as well as adjustable arms. It holds up to 325 pounds and folds up into an included bag for transport.
You get 10-inch and a 12-inch pans in this set, which are compatible with all stovetops, oven-safe up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and dishwasher-safe, according to the brand. They have a nonstick ceramic cooking surface that releases food quickly, as well as chip-resistant rims to help them last long.
According to RetailMeNot data, groceries is the number one category that shoppers are planning to spend on during Labor Day weekend, which is indicative of the economic pressure many are still facing as the cost of living continues to rise. Retailers are more focused on discounting summer clearance, mattresses, furniture and major appliances (which we have deals for below), but you can find grocery deals here and there, especially on bulk nonperishables, like these Kind bars. You get 12 gluten-free bars in the pack, which you can throw in the kids’ lunchboxes or keep in your car, desk drawer or everyday bag.
Similar to groceries, if household essentials like these batteries are on sale for Labor Day, I highly recommend adding them to your cart — you know you’ll use them, so you may as well save on them while they’re discounted. This pack comes with 20 AA batteries that last up to 10 years in storage, according to the brand.
You’ll find some of the best bedding deals during three-day holiday weekends like Labor Day, so if you’re in the market for a new quilt, now is the time to buy. Lands’ Ends’s machine-washable Seed Stitch Quilt is made from 100 percent cotton that feels already broken-in when you use it for the first time. It has a seed-stitched design, cotton batting and a smooth poplin backing. You can buy the quilt in twin, full/queen and king sizes, and buy matching shams separately (they’re also on sale right now).
With a 4.5-star average rating from more than 46,000 customers on Amazon, these are some of Levi’s most beloved men’s jeans. They have a relaxed fit that’s loose through the seat and thigh areas, but more tapered underneath. They’re also low stretch, which means there’s some give, and they sit right below the waist with a higher back for more coverage. You can buy the jeans in a range of standard and tall sizes, and numerous washes are currently on sale.
Comfrt’s Dreamer Blanket comes highly recommended by NBC Selected commerce editor Cory Fernandez, who says it’s just as soft and cozy as you’d hope (the brand sent him one to try). It’s covered in velvety fabric on both sides, and is semi-stretchy and machine-washable. Many Labor Day sales already ended now that the holiday is over, but some extend longer into this week. Shop as soon as possible so you don’t miss a deal you have your eye on.
The best Labor Day sales to shop this year are:
- Summer-related products: Summer is officially coming to an end, and retailers are desperate to get rid of related products to make room for fall inventory, says Porwal. Because of this, you’ll see huge clearance sales on grills, patio furniture, pool and beach accessories and outdoor sports equipment.
- Warm-weather clothing, footwear and accessories: Summer fashion usually makes up the biggest portion of retailers’ summer clearance sections, says Porwal. Use it as your chance to stock up on basics and buy discounted pieces you’ve had your eye on to save for next year. If you see something you’re interested in, be sure to jump on it — the most popular brands, styles, colors and sizes sell out very quickly.
- Mattresses, furniture and major appliances: Deals on these categories are the bread and butter of all three-day holiday weekend sales. Shoppers tend to wait on purchasing mattresses, furniture and major appliances because they’re pricey, says Stephanie Carls, a retail insights expert at RetailMeNot. By offering deep discounts across a few days, retailers give customers time to compare prices and weigh options, plus, on top of deals, they offer add-ons like free delivery and installation, which could be the thing that finally makes someone take the leap. Porwal says using Labor Day to buy mattresses, furniture and major appliances is especially important this year — he expects prices to increase by the end of 2026 due to ongoing economic issues, so this may be the last time you see deals this low.
The Labor Day sales you should skip this year are:
- Tech: Retailers offer the lowest prices of the year on items like TVs, gaming consoles, smart home devices, earbuds and Bluetooth speakers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, says Carls. Unless you need something immediately, don’t add tech to your cart just yet. The only exception is laptops. “Higher memory costs are putting pressure on notebook pricing, so if you find a strong Labor Day deal on the exact laptop you want, I’d take it seriously,” says Carls. “I wouldn’t assume November automatically gets you a lower final price.”
- Toys: Toy deals are the most competitive leading up to the holidays, especially during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, says Carls. If you’re already thinking about buying them as gifts, you’ll save the most if you wait to shop.
- Fall and winter clothing, shoes and accessories: Retailers just rolled out next season’s fashion, so they’re not motivated to drop prices just yet. Wait until sales in October and November to save on denim, boots, coats and sweaters, for example, says Porwal.
There are comparable Labor Day sales online and in stores, especially at big box retailers, so you’re guaranteed to find strong deals wherever you shop. A few things to keep in mind while deciding whether to leave your couch:
- Shopping online makes comparing prices and stacking savings easier, letting you consider the total value of a deal, not just the sale price, says Ashley Feinstein Gerstley, a shopping and savings expert at Rakuten. Open a few tabs and search for the exact same product at a handful of retailers to weigh which one offers the lowest price and lowest shipping fee. You can also shop through cash back apps and browser extensions online, which help you find additional promo codes and rewards, she says.
- Shopping in stores lets you try out big ticket items like furniture, mattresses and major appliances, giving you more confidence in pricey purchases. You can also ask a store associate about lower-priced floor models and open-box inventory, which you may never see advertised online, says Carls.
- Shipping fees add up, especially if you’re placing online orders at numerous retailers or buying big-ticket products that require installation. If your total goes up drastically once you consider shipping fees, see if you can buy online and pick up in store instead.
All the experts I talked to agree that the best way to save the most money during Labor Day sales is to stack your savings. That means looking at the deal price as the starting point and combining it with additional offers to save even more, says Gerstley. For example, search for promo codes to lower prices further, shop through cash back apps and browsers to put money back in your pocket, and pay with credit cards that let you earn rewards as you spend.
Additionally, make sure you’re comparing prices across retailers before buying anything, says Porwal. Since so many retailers are hosting sales right now, they’re all competing for your attention, and you never know when one might lower prices just a little bit more to give themselves an edge, or throw in extras that make a purchase more worthwhile, like free shipping, delivery, install or haul-away. Don’t be afraid to ask about price matching, too, says Carls. If a retailer really wants your business, they’ll be open to negotiating with you.
Last but not least, don’t feel like you absolutely have to buy something if deals aren’t compelling, says Gerstley. As we enter the final quarter of the year, sales are plentiful with early Black Friday and Cyber Monday offers starting in October, and Amazon Prime Big Deal Days might be around the corner (it hasn’t been confirmed yet, however). There will be more promotional moments in the near future, and waiting might be key to maximizing your savings.

Shoppers can save online and in stores throughout the holiday weekend at almost every major retailer.
