Kansas <a href="https://bitcomme.com/arkansas-attorney-general-sues-openai-over-chatgpt-safety-and-privacy-concerns/” title=”Arkansas Attorney General Sues OpenAI Over ChatGPT Safety and Privacy Concerns”>Attorney General Kris Kobach announced a lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, over safety concerns and deception claims.
Kobach says that OpenAI has violated Kansas law and proven it can be a danger to vulnerable users, like children. Several states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas and others, have filed their own lawsuits against OpenAI over similar accusations.
“While Congress has deliberated about AI for more than a year, significant harms have been inflicted upon our citizens by OpenAI,” Kobach said. “State attorneys general have the power to move quickly to protect consumers, and I believe we have a responsibility to take action now without delay.”
Kobach said as ChatGPT has grown to become the most popular chatbot in the world, it has misled the public into believing the tool puts safety first.
He said that while ChatGPT is designed to be agreeable, it poses risks and dangers. Kobach alleged that the chatbot can coach vulnerable users into dangerous behaviors or acts.
Kobach expressed concerns about research that indicates the chatbot is harming critical thinking and has even “gone rogue” at times.
