Driver’s licenses of millions exposed in Louisiana company data breach
A data breach at Louisiana-based identity verification companyIDScan.net has exposed more than 153 million driver’s license records, which are now being sold on the dark web.
Driver’s license records found for sale on dark web
Investigative reporter and cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs first reported the breach Tuesday night, stating that he found compromised licenses for sale on a dark web service called Nexus.
Among the records Krebs located was the driver’s license of U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, which Krebs posted on his website with Hegseth’s information redacted.

Krebs also discovered his own driver’s license among the compromised records, which he shared on his website.
The dark web service claims to be offering more than 153 million driver’s license records and 20 million other records from the breach at IDScan.net. The company specializes in ID verification and serves several major Fortune 500 companies.
Consumers urged to freeze their credit
Brian Roche, a consumer investigator, explained that the best advice is to assume your driver’s license is involved, as the stolen information can be used to commit financial crimes and create fake IDs.
He recommends freezing your credit to prevent accounts from being opened in your name.
