Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs’ recent fundraising emails say she is trailing Republican challenger Andy Biggs by 3 points and is being outspent 3-to-1. Polls and campaign finance reports show otherwise
The Maricopa County Elections Department says more than 900,000 ballots have been returned. Voters across the Valley are lining up to drop off their ballots in the final stretch of the midterms.
For weeks, polls in the governor’s race have shown Hobbs with a lead over Biggs.
Nearly every recent poll shows Hobbs ahead, including a HighGround survey this week that put her up by 12 points.
A spokesman for the Hobbs campaign said the campaign was referring to the poll released this week. They said the poll is not an independent survey and was conducted by Biggs’ supporters.
Latest campaign finance filings show Hobbs has outspent Biggs by $12 million. Millions of dollars more are coming in from outside groups on both sides.
Turning Point USA has spent more than $18 million to help Biggs. Hobbs received $14 million from the Democratic Governors Association. It is not clear how much support she has received from other sources.
Aleia Pope, who voted for Hobbs, said she is tired of the claims made during the campaign.
“Politicians aren’t the most honest people,” Pope said.
“Some of these claims obviously are dishonest,” she said.
Pope said she accepts the spin and distortions of the campaign.
“You can’t expect a politician, even if they’re amazing, to be, you know, always acting with integrity. That’s not how politics work, and that’s OK,” Pope said.
Greg Kent, who also said he voted for Hobbs, said misleading claims affect whether he would donate.
“If they’re being misleading, that’s obviously reason not to give them any money,” Kent said.
