Healthcare organizations are identifying significantly more cybersecurity risks than they are able to remediate, according to Fortified Health Security’s 2026 Mid-Year Horizon Report.
The Brentwood, Tennessee-based managed security services provider said its analysis of client assessment data based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 found that risk identification is outpacing organizations’ ability to address vulnerabilities.
Among the report’s findings, the overall risk remediation rate fell to 6.4%, down from 23.3% during the first quarter a year earlier. At the same time, the average healthcare organization experienced a 60% increase in critical and high-risk findings.

The report also identified notable increases in two areas. Findings related to cybersecurity supply chain risk management are on pace to reach six times the 2025 total, with 63% classified as critical or high risk. Identity management, authentication and access control findings are projected to be four times higher than in 2025, with 64% rated critical or high risk.
“Healthcare organizations are seeing their cybersecurity environments more clearly than ever, but that visibility is also revealing how much work remains,” Dan L. Dodson, CEO of Fortified Health Security, said in a statement. “The findings in this year’s Mid-Year Horizon Report show that risk is not just increasing in volume, it is becoming harder to resolve at the pace healthcare requires. The challenge now is turning awareness into action before those gaps affect care delivery.”
The report concludes that improving visibility into cybersecurity risks is no longer sufficient on its own. Instead, organizations’ ability to prioritize and remediate identified vulnerabilities is becoming a key measure of cyber resilience as healthcare systems contend with an expanding volume of security findings.
