Germany plans to introduce a package of measures to strengthen protection against drone attacks, cyberattacks and other forms of sabotage following a failed drone attack on an airport last month. This was which published a Reuters report citing the Bild am Sonntag newspaper
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told Bild am Sonntag that Russia’s hybrid attacks — an aggressor state — had become part of everyday reality. According to him, the number of such attacks will increase, but Germany is capable of defending itself.
Russia previously rejected accusations of conducting operations in Western Europe and denied involvement in the attack on the German airport. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it would respond to what it called “anti-Russian actions.”
Mobile units against drones
According to Bild am Sonntag, citing Germany’s Interior Ministry, police are to expand their mobile drone-countermeasure capabilities. Units that can be rapidly deployed to protect the airspace above key transport hubs and government districts are planned to be stationed in cities.

Companies operating critical infrastructure, including energy enterprises and defense manufacturers, are planned to be granted legal authority not only to detect drones but also to actively counter them.
“Cyber dome” and video surveillance
The plan also provides for the creation of a national protective shield in cyberspace — a “cyber dome.” It is to consist of a network of digital sensors to detect and intercept attempted hacker attacks.
The German government also intends to make broader use of artificial intelligence-based technologies, biometric facial recognition and video surveillance, including at railway stations. These tools are planned to be used to identify people suspected of preparing acts of sabotage. Germany’s Interior Ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on the report.
