The Cybersecurity & Privacy Law Committee program will help legal aid organizations identify, assess, and prioritize risks
As if helping thousands of low-income Floridians gain access to justice isn’t a big enough challenge, legal aid organizations are also custodians of highly sensitive client data, and responsible for the risks that entails.
Next month, the Cybersecurity & Privacy Law Committee is offering to help legal aid organizations with the latter, Organizations.”
The goal, sponsors say, is to help legal aid organizations “identify, assess, and prioritize” the risks of being targeted by increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals.
“You can’t protect what you haven’t identified,” sponsors note.
The September 10, hour-long seminar begins at noon and registration is free.
“This session walks legal aid programs through a practical, step-by-step approach to conducting a basic cybersecurity risk assessment — no technical background is required,” the sponsors note.
Experts will discuss how to identify sensitive data, “map where it lives, recognize common vulnerabilities, and prioritize risks based on their organization’s size, structure, and services.”
Monique Keels, a senior manager with Community Legal Services of Central Florida, will moderate.
Featured speakers include Chuck Bowen, privacy officer and chief counsel for Citizens Insurance; Eli Mattern, director of technology for Community Legal Services; and Josh Lazar, founder and CEO of TechThink Tank.
