Former Prichard finance director charged with theft by deception in city financial dispute (Mobile Jail)
PRICHARD, Ala. (NBC 15) —Former Prichard Finance DirectorKim Wilson turned herself in late Friday night and is facing one count of theft by deception.
Wilson was booked at 10:19 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and released at 11:37 p.m.
Wilson previously served as Prichard’s finance director before Mayor Carletta Davis terminated her amid an escalating dispute over the city’s finances and the production of financial records.
The dispute between Davis and members of the Prichard City Council has centered on spending, contracts and months of missing financial reports. Council members have accused the mayor’s administration of failing to provide records they requested, while Davis has said she did not receive complete reports from the finance director and blamed some of the reporting problems on the city’s financial system.
A state review of the city’s finances also raised concerns involving spending, contracts and missing bid documentation. Davis has said some of the financial problems identified by the state began before she took office.
After Wilson was removed from her position, the City Council’s attorney, Moshae Donald Walker, criticized the decision and said responsibility for producing requested financial records did not rest solely with the finance director.
