Adelante Mujeres is teaming up with Pacific University to welcome students back to Forest Grove with a back-to-school market Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The Forest Grove Farmers Market will extend onto the Pacific University lawn during a special back-to-school event for students.
Hosted by Adelante Mujeres in partnership with Pacific University, the Back to School Market will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, bringing more than 75 vendors to downtown Forest Grove and the university campus, along with live music, lawn games, student clubs and community organizations.
Vendors will offer fresh produce, prepared food, clothing, artwork and other goods.
The expanded market takes place during Pacific’s first week of fall classes, shortly after students move into campus housing Friday, Aug. 28.
Organizers said the market will give Pacific’s approximately 2,000 students an opportunity to meet local farmers and small-business owners while becoming acquainted with the broader Forest Grove community.
“Early adulthood is a unique time, and we want Pacific University students to know that the Forest Grove Farmers Market is for them, too,” Jodi Monroy, market access manager at Adelante Mujeres, said in a release. “We hope this experience helps instill a lifelong desire to eat good food and support local farmers.”
Pacific students can receive free market tokens by presenting a current university identification card while supplies last. Tokens, which can be used to purchase fresh food at the market, will be available at the information booth at the corner of Main and 21st streets.
Students are also encouraged to bring an item to be block printed by Maidens of the Pacific, a local artist and market vendor.
Monroy said organizers hope the event will lead to an ongoing partnership between Pacific and the farmers market.
“We want this relationship to be two-way,” Monroy said. “Students and Pacific University can participate in the market in many ways — as customers, vendors, performers, community partners and more.”
