KUANTAN: The E-Commerce Bill will be tabled in Parliament at the first meeting next year to strengthen regulation of online transactions, says Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh (pic).
The Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said the initial draft of the Bill had been completed and was being refined before it was tabled.
“We do not have specific legislation to regulate e-commerce. In most cases, we negotiate and act as intermediaries between online entrepreneurs and platform providers,” she told a press conference after closing the Retail Access Programme 2026 here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling Budget 2027 on Oct 9, said the Bill would be tabled at the next Parliament meeting to strengthen accountability among online platforms and sellers.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the proposed law focused on protecting consumers against unfair trade practices; clarifying the responsibilities of online marketplace operators and sellers; improving dispute resolution; and aligning regulatory framework with international best practices.
He said the legislation would strengthen enforcement against cross-border e-commerce platforms selling products and services to Malaysian consumers.
The Bill would also clarify the responsibilities of online marketplace operators, vendors and users, including the obligations of foreign platforms and sellers operating in Malaysia.
