Dismissed accountant of Bhawal Raj Estate jailed for 14 years
DHAKA, Sept 13, 2026 (BSS) – A court has sentenced Imam-ul Bashar, a dismissed accountant of the Court of Wards for the historic Bhawal Raj Estate under the Land Reform Board, to 14 years in prison in a graft case.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 pronounced the judgement this afternoon.
In the judgment, the court said accused Imam-ul Bashar was found guilty under Section 409 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947. He was sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Taka 987,400.
Besides, the court sentenced the accused to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Taka 50,000 after finding him guilty under Sections 467/471 of the Penal Code. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to suffer an additional three months’ imprisonment. The judgment said the sentences under the two sections would run concurrently.
The court directed that the embezzled amount of Taka 987,400, imposed as fine, must be deposited into the bank account maintained in the name of the Court of Wards for the Bhawal Raj Estate.
