Wis. (WMTV) – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office has released photos of the suspect in Tuesday’s armed robbery at the Bank of Deerfield
According to the sheriff’s office, a man armed with a handgun entered the Bank of Deerfield on Shaul Lane just before closing Tuesday evening. He restrained two bank employees and forced them to surrender an undisclosed amount of cash.
The man fled in a Lincoln MKZ that he stole from the bank’s parking lot. The vehicle was later found abandoned on State Farm Road. The suspect remains at large.
The photos come from the Bank of Deerfield’s security cameras. They show a man in camouflage gear covering his head and part of his face. He has not been identified.
Papers posted on the doors and windows of the Shaul Lane location say it will be closed until Monday.
The bank’s president and CEO said the closure allows the sheriff’s office to investigate and gives employees time to recover. He said he is still sorting out details after the robbery, including making sure the employees who were held at gunpoint are okay.
He said he has never been robbed in more than 30 years. He said the safety of his employees and clients is the top priority.
Community members said the robbery is sad and scary. Kevin Holzem said his mother lives about a quarter mile from the bank.
“Oh, I was kind of shocked. My mom was just beside herself because she’s literally 1/4 mile away from here. So she was scared,” Holzem said.
The sheriff’s office said it is pursuing all leads and is not ruling out anything. That includes a possible lead that an inmate who escaped from a Tennessee prison may be connected to the robbery.
Jacob Morley escaped from the prison on Sunday. He is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. Surveillance footage shows him leaving the facility and stealing a truck.
The truck was found abandoned in Marion, Illinois, on Tuesday morning. Police believe Morley left the area.
Tennessee officials said they are aware of the Deerfield robbery and are assisting law enforcement partners in pursuing all potential leads.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is leading the armed robbery investigation. The FBI is also assisting.
“The FBI is working jointly with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a bank robbery in Deerfield, Wisconsin,” wrote the FBI Milwaukee Division in a statement to WMTV. “The FBI routinely offers assistance to our law enforcement partners.”
