The City of Lacey has received state recognition for its financial reporting practices and management of public funds.
The Washington State Auditor’s Office presented the city with its Stewardship Award, recognizing its internal controls and commitment to accountability and transparency. The city announced the award in a statement released on Sept. 4.
City Manager Rick Walk said financial audits are an important part of earning public trust.
“While financial audits may not be the most exciting part of local government, they are an important part of how we earn and maintain the community’s trust,” said Walk in a statement.
“This recognition reflects the (finance) team’s commitment to strong financial practices, as well as the work of staff throughout the organization to manage public resources responsibly.”
Staff members follow financial procedures and manage city resources as part of that effort, according to the city.
Lacey did not provide information about a specific audit period or individual audit findings connected with the Stewardship Award.
Walk also gave a nod to other agencies that have been similarly honored.
“We’re proud to be recognized alongside other agencies that share this commitment to accountability and responsible use of public resources,” Walk said. “Thank you to our (finance) team and staff throughout the organization for doing your part to help maintain the public’s trust.”
