The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the City of Sanibel the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Association provided the following statement:
(Chicago, Illinois)—Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to City of Sanibel for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2024. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“For forty consecutive years, the City of Sanibel Finance Department has earned this prestigious award from the GFOA. Our CFO and Deputy City Manager, Steve Chaipel, along with the entire department, deserve recognition for this remarkable achievement,” said Sanibel Mayor Mike Miller. “They consistently excel not only in managing the City’s revenues and expenditures, but also in budgeting and reporting with a high level of transparency.”
