Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card: Which Travel Card Wins in November 2026?
Many or all of the products here are from our partners that compensate us. It’s how we make money. But our editorial integrity ensures that our product ratings are not influenced by compensation.
If you ask me, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) is the best mid-tier travel card out there — but the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees) and its current welcome offer are giving it a run for its money.
Both cards have the same annual fee, strong earning rates, and valuable perks. The difference (and which one is better for you) comes down to what you want out of a card.
Here’s what to know.
Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card: Which welcome offer wins?
Right now, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is offering 75,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months. Since Chase points are worth a bare minimum of $0.01 apiece toward travel, that’s a bonus worth at least $750 in Chase Travel℠ value — and even more if you use the card’s transfer partners.
The standard offer on the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees) is about the same — but the current offer is a nice step up. Earn more than $1,000 in Travel Bonuses with a limited-time $300 Capital One Travel stays credit, plus earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
The limited-time $300 Capital One Travel stays credit is the cherry on top — the usual offer is just the 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. All together, that’s a value of more than $1,000 toward travel, all with a lower spending requirement than the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
Both of these are considered top credit card sign-up bonuses to earn. But, if you’ve ever thought about getting the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, now is probably the time to do it. This is easily one of the best welcome offers in this card’s history.

This is one of our favorite credit cards — period. The huge 75,000-mile bonus (worth $750 toward travel) is one of the highest we’ve seen for a card with just a $95 annual fee. Plus, for a limited time, enjoy $300 to use on hotel and vacation rental bookings through Capital One Travel. We love the simple yet lucrative rewards structure: unlimited 2X miles on every purchase you make, plus 5X on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and up to a $120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®.
Miles are easier to redeem than most travel cards with options like statement credits, travel bookings, or point transfers. Add it all up and it’s easy to see why this is one of the best (and most popular) travel cards available today.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card: Which has better earning rates?
When it comes to earning rates, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is pretty much the cream of the crop. You’ll get:
- 5X points on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠ (flights, hotels, rental cars, and more)
- 3X points on dining, select streaming services, and online groceries (excluding Walmart, Target, and wholesale clubs)
- 3X points on gas & EV charging
- 3X points on vacation homes
- 2X points on all other travel purchases
- 1X points on all other purchases
That’s extremely versatile — I especially love getting 3X points on groceries and gas. The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees), meanwhile, comes with:
- 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
- 2X miles on every purchase
That’s a shorter list on paper, but the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is plenty valuable — don’t sleep on the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card’s 2X miles flat rate on everything you buy.
Still, if you want to earn more in a bunch of everyday spending categories, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the way to go.

This card just got meaningfully better. Welcome bonus aside, the new Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 3x on Airbnb and vacation rentals, 3x at gas stations (including Costco) & EV Charging. It also now includes a $100 hotel credit plus up to a $120 TSA PreCheck credit — turning the $95 annual fee into a card that pays for itself before you book a single flight. With added travel protections like rental car insurance and trip reimbursement, we think this card is the most practical travel card at this price point.

Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Venture Rewards: Which has better perks?
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees) really only has one perk worth mentioning. You’ll get a statement credit of up to $120 every four years to cover the cost of Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. That’s a solid benefit, enough to practically offset the $95 annual fee (see rates and fees) for your first year.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card also offers $120 every four years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card for a Global Entry, TSA Precheck® or NEXUS application. On top of that, you’ll get:
- A $100 yearly Chase Travel hotel credit
- Complimentary one-year Apple TV subscription if activated by Dec. 31, 2026 (A $156 value, terms apply)
- Complimentary DashPass (active through Dec. 31, 2027, with $0 delivery fees and a $10 monthly promo credit on non-restaurant orders)
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the easy winner here —if you’ll actually use some or all of those perks.
Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Venture Rewards: Which is better?
I won’t lie: I love the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (and use it myself). Its earning rates are pretty much unmatched among similar cards, and its perks can cover the $95 annual fee several times over.
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees) is another solid option, though, especially if you want a reliable flat rate and a more valuable welcome offer. You can’t go wrong here, but if you’ve been thinking about the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card specifically, now’s definitely the time to pull the trigger.
