Celltrion Group Chairman Seo Jeong-jin’s stock value rose by more than 1 trillion won in the third quarter of this year alone, with the stock assets of major domestic group heads falling by more than 18 trillion won.
According to the Korea CXO Research Institute on the 6th, the stock valuations of the heads of 48 groups decreased from 134.199 trillion won at the end of June to 115.4423 trillion won at the end of September. It fell by 18.577 trillion won and 13.9% in three months.
There were mixed feelings of joy and sorrow by the head of the company. Stock wealth increased by 25 out of 48 but decreased by 23. In particular, the total valuation was lowered as the stock assets of the owners decreased by more than 22 trillion won.
A notable figure is Celltrion Group Chairman Seo Jeong-jin. Chairman Suh’s stock valuation increased by 1.372 trillion won (8.7 percent) from 11.894.4 trillion won at the end of June to 12.9316 trillion won at the end of September. Among the 48 group heads, the increase was the largest.
It was largely due to the increase in the number of stocks held rather than the increase in stock prices. During the same period, Celltrion’s stock price rose only 2.5% from KRW 173,300 to KRW 177,700, but its stock assets increased by more than KRW 1 trillion as the number of shares held by Chairman Suh increased by about 6%.
GS Group Honorary Chairman Huh Chang-soo ranked first in terms of growth rate. Honorary Chairman Huh’s stock valuation jumped 53.6 percent from 415.8 billion won to 638.5 billion won. This is due to the 61.7% and 35.3% increase in GS Co., Ltd. and GS Construction shares, respectively.
On the other hand, the stock assets of the heads of Korea’s three largest conglomerates have decreased significantly. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong fell 13.1984 trillion won to 45.9894 trillion won from 59.1878 trillion won. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won fell by 3.186.2 trillion won and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun fell by 1.1813 trillion won. The three people’s stock assets alone fell to 17.56 trillion won.
Still, Chairman Lee Jae-yong remained at the top of the list with his stock assets of 45.9894 trillion won as of the end of September. Chairman Seo Jeong-jin ranked second with 12.9316 trillion won, and Chairman Chey Tae-won ranked third with 7.6397 trillion won.
Meanwhile, as of the end of September, the total number of groups with stock assets exceeding 1 trillion won stood at 17, up one from the end of June. Kim Joon-ki, the founder of DB Group, recorded KRW 1.8808 trillion and was newly listed as a “Group 1 Club.”
