S.C. (WCBD) – Boeing is investing another $100,000 in Charleston County School District’s career exploration program, expanding opportunities for students to learn about high-demand advanced manufacturing careers across the Charleston region
The renewed funding marks the second consecutive year Boeing has supported the initiative, which provides middle and high school students with career exploration field trips and discovery camps focused on advanced manufacturing.
During the 2025-26 school year, more than 700 students from 16 CCSD middle and high schools participated in visits to local employers, including Boeing, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Cummins and XscapeWorks.
School district officials said the experiences gave students firsthand exposure to manufacturing environments and helped them better understand career opportunities available in the Lowcountry.
“These kids are learning mechanical and electrical technology, hydraulics, schematics, machinery, and they’re getting ready for their future,” said Richard Gordon, CCSD’s executive director of career and technical education. “Already this year we’ve worked on OSHA and safety … these kids are ready to rock.”
District leaders said the new investment will allow more students to participate during the 2026-27 school year while strengthening connections between classroom learning and career pathways after graduation.
Through the program, students take part in hands-on learning experiences, interact with industry professionals and explore the technology and skills used in today’s manufacturing workforce.
CCSD officials said the expanded program aims to increase awareness of local career opportunities while encouraging student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
