AI inference startup Baseten is reportedly in talks for a new funding round, seeking to raise about $2 billion at a valuation of up to $30 billion — more than double its $13 billion valuation in June. The round is expected to be split into two tranches, with the first at a $26 billion valuation and the second at $30 billion, and existing shareholder Sands Capital expected to lead. Founded in 2019, Baseten focuses on enterprise-grade AI model deployment and inference software, and Nvidia has featured it in a case study. Peer Fireworks AI also closed a $1.5 billion raise at a $17.5 billion valuation in July, signaling accelerating capital flows into AI inference infrastructure.
Key Elements
The artificial intelligence inference sector has produced another large fundraising. Market sources indicate that San Francisco-based AI inference startup Baseten is in talks for a new funding round, seeking to raise about $2 billion, which would value the company at up to $30 billion — more than double its $13 billion level in June.
The round is understood to be structured in two tranches, with the first corresponding to a $26 billion valuation and the second rising to $30 billion. Existing shareholder Sands Capital is expected to lead. Baseten’s previous raise came in June, when it secured $1.5 billion at a $13 billion valuation and announced the completion of its Series F on its corporate blog on June 22.
Founded in 2019, Baseten’s core business is helping enterprises deploy trained AI models into actual production environments, providing inference software and related services, with customer case studies also published on its website. Nvidia has featured Baseten in a case study on cloud-scale AI inference, illustrating how the startup applies its technology.
The fundraising reflects capital rapidly flowing into the AI inference segment. Inference refers to the process of actually running a trained model to generate outputs, and as AI applications expand, demand for computing power is rising in tandem. Peer Fireworks AI raised $1.5 billion in July at a $17.5 billion valuation, showing sustained investor interest in inference infrastructure.
Notably, if Baseten’s latest valuation materializes, it would represent more than a doubling in just a few months, with both the pace of fundraising and the pricing proving quite aggressive. The terms are still under negotiation, and the final amount and valuation could change.
