AT&T settlement payouts could reach $5,000 for eligible customers
AT&T Inc. customers affected by two cybersecurity breaches in 2024 could start receiving payments soon, after a federal judge granted final approval to a $177 million class action settlement earlier this month.
AT&T (T) agreed to a settlement resolving a lawsuit alleging the company failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to protect customers’ personal information following the 2024 data breaches.
On March 30, 2024, the company said that a data set released on the dark web contained AT&T customer information. On July 12, 2024, AT&T announced a second data breach in which limited data was illegally downloaded from an AT&T workspace on a third-party cloud platform.
The company denies any wrongdoing. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas approved the deal on Oct. 2. If an appeal is not filed, the settlement’s date is estimated to be on Nov. 12.
Who is eligible for a payment, and can you still submit a claim?
The deadline to submit a claim has passed, but customers were eligible to submit a claim and receive a payment if their personal information was compromised in one or both of the data breach incidents.
The deadline to submit a claim was Dec. 18, 2025, but customers who did submit a claim on time can visit TelecomDataSettlement.com for the most recent information.
How much are class members getting, and when are payments going out?
Members who fall into the first settlement class and have a documented loss that occurred in 2019 or later are eligible for a cash payment of up to $5,000.
Those who fall into the second settlement class for losses that occurred on or after April 14, 2024, may receive a payment of up to $2,500.
As an alternative to a documented loss cash payment, eligible class members also had the option to submit a claim for a pro ratashare of the remaining settlement fund after payment of settlement administration costs, attorneys’ fees, costs, and service awards.
Payments must be distributed electronically or by paper check within 60 days of the effective date, or the official date when the terms of the settlement can no longer be appealed.
