Approaches to land sector and bio-based carbon accounting

    07/05/2026

As countries and companies accelerate their climate commitments, the need for coherent and transparent approaches to greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting in the land sector is becoming increasingly urgent. This webinar will explore ongoing international efforts to improve consistency in how biogenic carbon, land-use change, and bio-based products are assessed across corporate inventories and life-cycle methodologies. The session will introduce key developments from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s Land Sector and Removals Standard and the UNEP Biogenic Carbon Project, followed by an interactive discussion on opportunities for alignment, remaining methodological gaps, and implications for sustainable bioenergy and bio-based value chains. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how emerging standards can support credible climate reporting and informed policy and investment decision-making. This webinar is part of the 2026 Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) webinar series, as part of the thematic area “Towards sustainable modern wood energy development”.
