Luminis Health cyberattack delays cancer treatment and test results
The cybersecurity attack affecting Anne Arundel Medical Center and Luminis Health Care remains unsolved almost a week after it was first reported the hospital system was under a Code Black.
The health system said it is still trying to determine which systems and how many patients are affected across its entire organization.
Some patients have had their medical services rescheduled because of the attack.
One woman from Gambrills told WBAL-TV 11 News she is waiting on the results of imaging done at the Luminis Imaging Center in Odenton 10 days ago.
“These cyber criminals are not just holding Luminis hostage for money or whatever they’re asking for, they’re holding my test results,” Ellen said. “My possible medical future or future treatment may be delayed because of it.”
The imaging was needed to determine if further treatment is needed for a serious health diagnosis she is facing.
The attack is also impacting a 44-year-old single mom from Anne Arundel County who has an aggressive form of breast cancer.
She told 11 News she is on a very specific, time-sensitive six-month regimen of a newly FDA-approved chemotherapy infusion.
The woman was scheduled to get her second infusion on Thursday, but was told Wednesday morning it was cancelled because the healthcare company was unable to provide an alternative location.
“I feel like this can’t be real. These people, I’m putting my trust in these people, and I’m disappointed,” she said. “I am sure, you know, I’m definitely not the only person out there. It’s just, it’s absurd.”
WBAL-TV 11 News reached out to Luminis for additional information on the scale of the attack’s impact. A spokesperson shared a similar statement they sent 11 News eight days ago.
Patients of Luminis Health can check the health system’s website with updates on the situation.
