MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WSBT) —A family entertainment destination in Mishawaka is growing even bigger.
The owner of Generations AdventurePlex is expanding with their second location, and celebrated the grand opening of Generations Raceway on Thursday.
But the woman behind the expansion said she’s not stopping anytime soon.
Theresa Cruthird is the founding director of both Generations AdventurePlex and Generations Raceway.
But before she made the transition to entertainment, she was an anesthesiologist who was looking to add more fun to her every day routine.
“I started remembering, like, when I was a kid, what are things I cared about?” said Theresa Cruthird, Generations Adventureplex and Raceway Founding Director.
Cruthird spent her whole life planning to become a doctor and she achieved that goal, working in anesthesia for five years.
That is, until she felt like her life had a calling for more fun.
I had been working in anesthesia for about five years as an anesthesiologist and had pretty much worked my whole life to become a doctor and have been working and thought, Oh, this is great, but this isn’t kind of like the pinnacle of what I thought my life was gonna be like,” said Cruthird.
Cruthird found a new calling.
In 2020, Generations AdventurePlex in Mishawaka opened, filled with laser tag, axe throwing and mini golf.
On Thursday, a second location held its first ribbon-cutting: Generations Raceway, also in Mishawaka, on West Edison Road.
But this location is different. It provides indoor go-kart racing for children and families.
Cruthird wants to make sure everyone there has fun.
She’s amazing. I love that you get to have a firsthand experience of all she does. I think here it’s definitely family-oriented. I really love it,” said Jessica Milligan, a Generations Raceway Employee.
Cruthird said she has her eyes set on new goals.
She’s planning on expanding the go-kart racing track to be outdoors and wants to eventually build a water park at another separate location.
“You know, people will say, well, why would you leave medicine and come and do this? It’s like, well, I haven’t left medicine. I’m adding to another space in my life. But now like, you know, if you have a different vision for your life, just pursue it. Just see,” said Cruthird.
