AI Tools Reshape Stock Trading and Investment Research in China
Artificial intelligence is helping China’s roughly 250 million individual investors pursue returns in one of the world’s most volatile stock markets, according to the South China Morning Post. The report describes how AI can rapidly complete research workloads that previously consumed days or even weeks.
Ryan Lei, a 27-year-old quantitative trader based in Hong Kong, illustrates the shift. When he develops an investment idea, he no longer spends days writing code and reviewing historical data to test it. For a recent bet linked to a major technology initial public offering, Lei used Futus AI agents to gather data on comparable listings from the past decade and analyze their performance after listing. That AI-assisted research supported a short position that ultimately earned him several thousand US dollars, the report said.
Lei has nine years of investing experience and co-manages a seven-person proprietary quantitative trading team. His experience points to how AI could alter trader behavior and reshape the financial and asset-management industries, according to the report.
In the United States, brokerages including Robinhood and Webull are incorporating AI into their tools to assist clients, most of whom are individual investors, with buying and selling stocks. In Hong Kong, Futu Securities, described as one of the city’s largest online brokers, launched an agentic feature called expert mode in July. The feature allows clients to conduct investment research and place orders for stocks, options and exchange-traded funds using natural-language instructions.
