Gartnerannounced new trends in data and analytics around agentic AI, including: using decision governance to reduce agentic AI risk, an increase in AI governance platform use, real-time intelligence through agentic data streaming, and using agentic data management to streamline operations.

Gartner adds that the drive for real-time intelligence will cause a 60% increase in organizations using data streaming for agentic AI by 2028.

“Organizations are moving rapidly toward an AI-first operating model, where AI is now a core consideration in every business decision, workflow and investment. Without a clear, enterprise-wide commitment, organizations will struggle to consistently realize its full potential across the business,” saidCarlie Idoine, VP Analyst at Gartner.
Using AI agents to streamline processes and drive governance is an overarching theme among Gartner’s trends. Gartner says that decision governance will make agentic decisions more trusted and faster than ungoverned decisions, and using AI governance platforms will drive trust.
Per the report, “Standard assurance methods are no longer sufficient for implementing effective AI governance as global AI regulatory complexity increases, new AI risks emerge and adoption of autonomous AI agents accelerates.” The analyst firm states that AI governance platforms will enforce corporate policy, regulations and industry standards, as well as aid with operationalizing governance, providing oversight and risk management frameworks.
Gartner is also predicting an enterprise shift from batch-processed data to dat streaming. This isn’t limited to Gartner though, as arecent Confluent reportalso stated that94% of tech leadershave seen or expect to see data streaming amplify the impact of AI investments.
Gartner also predicts that complex data management challenges will cause organizations to use AI agents for data management and operations. This means organizations will use AI agents to enhance core data processes using real-time actions, pattern detection and recommendations for faster, more flexible responses.
Idoine said, “Integrating AI agents into data management workflows enables data teams to operate more adaptively using self-learning systems. Establishing strong governance and continuously monitoring performance will be essential to ensure these capabilities deliver consistent, business-aligned outcomes.”
Though these trends point toward increased data monitoring and governance, none of them eliminate the need for oversight. Martha Buyer, lawyer and No Jitter contributor added, “Without human oversight, the AI decision-making capability remains limited by the data that the decisions are based upon. Yes, those databases and the sophistication of the AI tools will continue to improve and advance, but AI, even on its best day, as no common sense and for matters of governance that require more than “yes/no” decision trees, there remains huge potential for error or misunderstanding.”
