Advanced IT Concepts has appointed Amy Brown-Slawson as chief information security officer, strengthening its cybersecurity leadership as the government technology provider expands its work across federal and defense markets.
Brown-Slawson will oversee Advanced IT’s enterprise cybersecurity strategy, information security governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and security operations. Her responsibilities will include protecting critical systems and information while integrating security requirements into the company’s operations and growth strategy.
The appointment brings nearly 20 years of IT and cybersecurity experience to a company whose work includes enterprise technology services, training operations and foreign military training solutions supporting government and defense missions.
“Amy brings the technical expertise, leadership experience, and regulatory knowledge needed to advance our cybersecurity program and support our customers’ evolving mission requirements,” President and CEO Juan Navarro said. “Her background in governance, risk, compliance, and CMMC will be invaluable as we continue strengthening our security culture, protecting critical assets, and expanding our capabilities across the federal and defense markets.”
Brown-Slawson joins Advanced IT from Aurora Flight Sciences, where she served as chief information security officer and information technology security manager. Aurora develops advanced aircraft and autonomous systems, giving Brown-Slawson cybersecurity leadership experience within an aerospace and defense environment.
Before Aurora, she spent more than 14 years as director of IT and security at Orbit Logic. Earlier in her career, she served as an IT manager with SFC Graphics.
Her experience with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, or CMMC, is particularly relevant as cybersecurity requirements become increasingly embedded in how companies compete for and execute Department of Defense work.
Brown-Slawson holds credentials as a Lead CMMC Certified Assessor, CMMC Certified Assessor and CMMC Certified Professional. She is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Cloud Security Professional.
That combination of technical security and compliance expertise positions her role beyond traditional enterprise IT protection. For government contractors, cybersecurity governance increasingly intersects with customer requirements, business development and the ability to participate in sensitive federal supply chains.
“I look forward to working with teams across the company to strengthen our cybersecurity posture, enhance governance and compliance, and ensure our people, systems, and information remain protected as the organization continues to grow,” Brown-Slawson said.
Advanced IT provides systems integration, professional services, cybersecurity and training support to defense and federal agencies. Its operating environment requires the company to manage its own security posture while also delivering technology and services into organizations with demanding mission and information-protection requirements.
Brown-Slawson’s appointment comes as defense contractors face greater scrutiny around the security of systems and sensitive information throughout the broader industrial base. Cyber risk is no longer confined to major prime contractors or government networks; suppliers and service providers throughout the ecosystem can represent potential points of exposure.
That dynamic has made security governance a strategic consideration for companies seeking to expand their federal business. Demonstrating mature controls, documented processes and regulatory compliance can influence both eligibility for certain work and customers’ confidence in prospective partners.
Brown-Slawson earned a master’s degree in information technology with a concentration in information assurance from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Her background spans security operations, governance, compliance and enterprise technology management.
As CISO, she will work across Advanced IT rather than treating cybersecurity as an isolated technical function. The company said the role is intended to strengthen cyber resilience and ensure security remains incorporated into its broader operating model.
The hire also adds specialized leadership as Advanced IT builds more scalable operations around its federal and defense business. Growth in those markets can increase the volume and complexity of security obligations as contractors add employees, systems, customers and programs.
For Advanced IT, Brown-Slawson’s appointment reinforces cybersecurity as both a risk-management function and an element of competitive positioning. Her mandate will center on maintaining the security and compliance infrastructure needed to protect the organization while supporting its ability to pursue increasingly complex government and defense missions.
