Wirtek wins three cybersecurity contracts in Ireland
    WIRTEK

Wirtek announced yesterday that the company has secured contracts to deliver cybersecurity for the control systems of three solar power plants in Ireland.

The contracts have been entered into with a single customer who is building and commissioning all three plants. Each plant is set up according to Wirtek’s OTShield method, whereby a pre-configured and tested rack cabinet is installed on site without disrupting the software or ongoing operations. All equipment is prepared and tested at Wirtek’s own facility before being dispatched, saving time on site and reducing risk for the customer.

The total scope of work across the three plants includes a cybersecurity review of the control systems and risk mapping, segmentation of the network into secure zones with firewall and secure remote access, installation of pre-configured rack equipment, and documentation for NIS2 compliance – including an emergency response plan, operations plan, disaster recovery plan, and supply chain security policy. Finally, a test is carried out at Wirtek’s facility followed by an acceptance test at the customer’s site. The contracts have been entered into at a fixed price, and Wirtek’s physical presence on site is limited to tasks that cannot be handled remotely.

The three projects represent an important step in Wirtek’s development within renewable energy in Europe and demonstrate the growing demand for structured security solutions for control systems. The NIS2 regulations were the direct catalyst for the collaboration, as the customer needed a partner capable of delivering a revision-ready solution without disrupting operations or creating uncertainty about pricing. Work is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.

Humberto Ferreira, Head of Wirtek’s Energy Division, states:

Renewable energy operators are under increasing pressure to demonstrate that their OT environments meet the security standards now required under NIS2. These projects confirm that the market is moving from awareness to action, and that operators are looking for partners who understand both the technology and the regulatory context.
