Ross Gerber and his panel of experts weigh in on the spectacle of Tesla’s (TSLA) Roadster reveal.
Today’s panel includes The Housing Frame founder Conor Sen, Lyn Alden Investment Strategy founder Lyn Alden, and financial adviser and YouTuber Kevin Paffrath.
Here are the two things that this Roadster event actually did. and I haven’t seen anybody talk about this first one yet, not even on X. That this was a hiring event. This was a hiring event to get the best engineers who want to work on beautiful suction nozzles and blowing nozzles for space. That’s what this was. This was the future of space. A and B last thing, this was merger marketing for SpaceX and Tesla. That’s it. It’s not coming. It ain’t coming anytime soon. and Sawyer’s $50,000 deposit was probably gifted to him by Tesla. I I said it.
I I would hope Sawyer would disclose that he was given the money that he’s not going to get back for years and maybe never get a car like all the other people. But that said, you know, I appreciate Sawyer and his posts and keeping us all up to date and his enthusiasm for giving Elon money for no return. So what what did you think, Lynn? I you know, I I was wondering a woman’s perspective. I mean, this was kind of a like a very masculine heavy launch, you know, it felt very testosterone driven. Elon clearly looked like he was on a special mission, you know, and so he was pretty buzz looking and happy and what what what would did you take from this? I don’t know if you watched the event, but what do you take from all this?
Well, I think for sports cars, I mean it’s probably the right approach to take. Uh I think there’s a market for it. Um, and I know I agree with Kevin that I mean this was primarily a marketing event. This was it was you know, kind of signaling at potential mergers, uh attracting engineers, attracting investors. It’s more of a display to say, look at what we can do uh more so than here is a reasonable car that’ll be on the market in a reasonable time frame. Um, and you know, they they could get something like this out. It won’t have the thrusters on it. You know, they you could write just the regulation itself and and make something that’s street legal. but it’s more of really just a display uh because anyone who watched that thought it was, you know, super cool. and then of course, it’s all anyone talking about. whereas if they just had a more routine demonstration
That’s right. if it was an apple.
that accomplish much. So I I think it makes sense that, you know, they’re not talking about being able to deliver this anytime soon or it’s less tangible and it’s more just a a flex.
