The other is Nguyen Duc Duy, a graduate of the Advanced Program in Business Analytics (EM-E13) from the School of Economics.

This academic summit opened up a new definition of Business Analytics at the Polytechnic University: Real-world data became the foundation that enabled Economics students to confidently master the most complex intelligent technologies globally! It also marked the beginning of a proud new chapter in the journey of Nguyen Duc Duy – a former student of the Advanced Business Analytics Program (EM-E13), School of Economics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Duy graduated in July 2026 with a GPA of 3.7/4.0 and achieved the highest score in his thesis defense. Just one month later, in August 2026, Duy continued to make his mark by receiving two full scholarships for a PhD program in Artificial Intelligence in the US from UNC Charlotte and the University of Florida. After carefully considering his research direction and opportunities to work with professors, Duy chose the University of Florida as his destination to continue his academic and research journey. The Unexpected Turn of the Wheel for a Math-Specialized Student at Ams High School: In May 2022, Nguyen Duc Duy concluded his years as a student in the specialized math class at Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students with a fourth-place award in the city-level Math Olympiad. Possessing a naturally logical mindset, Duy was expected to apply to computer engineering programs. However, the young man decided to make a different path by choosing the Advanced Program in Business Analytics (EM-E13) at the School of Economics , Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Duy shared that his in-depth mathematical foundation helped him develop systematic logical thinking and the ability to analyze the essence of problems. He always aspired to apply these mathematical tools to directly solve practical problems in businesses. Business Analytics is the ideal intersection of mathematics, technology, and economics. Duy wanted to deeply understand what lies behind the numbers in order to make effective management decisions and create real value for the organization. The learning environment at the School of Economics provided Duy with the opportunity for comprehensive training through a curriculum that cultivated both managerial thinking and strong data engineering skills. This unique combination prepared a solid foundation for his future endeavors in the field of artificial intelligence.
The Lens of Mathematics and the Real-World Problems of Businesses: Many people assume that in-depth research in Artificial Intelligence is the domain of Information Technology students. From the perspective of a Business Analytics graduate and his own experience, Duy believes that Information Technology students possess a significant advantage in algorithmic thinking and the skills to build optimal systems when designing complex deep learning model architectures. However, modern Artificial Intelligence is a highly interdisciplinary and practical field. The advanced Business Analytics program at the Polytechnic University of Economics has equipped Duy with crucial knowledge. Core subjects such as Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Data Science have helped him directly understand the nature of AI algorithms through the lens of mathematics and data distribution, thereby evaluating model performance in the most rigorous way. Recognizing the demanding requirements of in-depth AI research, Duy is determined to self-study every day. The young man independently studied data structures, algorithm optimization, and practical programming through specialized books and journals, as well as corporate projects. This perseverance helped Duy solidify his technological foundation and cultivate independent thinking, enabling him to progress further.
During his time working at Pixta Vietnam as an AI Engineer from August 2024 to November 2025, Duy directly addressed the problem of “Cold-Start” issues and positional bias in the core search system. The economics graduate from the Polytechnic University dissected data structures and designed improved ranking algorithms that helped Pixta reduce the average sales time for top-performing products by 35%. Simultaneously, Duy directly built an automated content moderation system. Integrating advanced models such as YOLO-World, Detic, and large-scale visual-linguistic models, he optimized the analysis process, automatically filtered videos, and minimized manual labeling costs for the company. This practical experience became invaluable material for Duy’s graduation thesis, titled “Analysis and Proposed Solutions to Improve Cold-Start Issues on the PIXTA Inc.” e-commerce platform. The thesis received the highest defense score from the Council thanks to its seamless combination of a solid scientific foundation and effective practical application. This confirms that the systems analysis thinking of the EM-E13 major is fully capable of solving complex technological problems. Economics students from the Polytechnic University shine in the Artificial Intelligence arena. Duy challenges himself in an international environment by taking on the role of Remote AI Engineer for WIGIN, LLC from November 2025 to August 2026, focusing on optimizing video compression and super-resolution. This work hones his professional demeanor, self-reliance, and confidence in collaborating with global colleagues.
Duy’s passion for scientific research has yielded brilliant, internationally recognized results. This final-year student from the Hanoi University of Economics and Technology has an outstanding scientific paper published in the prestigious journal Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR) in 2025. In this research, Duy introduces the “VirDA” method, which reuses backbone networks for unsupervised domain adaptation problems using visual programming techniques. The solution achieves superior accuracy while requiring only a minimal number of parameters for training.
Previously, Duy won the Best Paper award at the 12th BIGDAS International Conference on driver distraction detection. Duy is also a co-author of a study refining the BLIP vision model using rich data generated from ChatGPT at MediaEval 2024. Recently, he published his work “PARSE” on domain generalization through a combination of traditional deep learning and symbolic artificial intelligence.
Behind those academic achievements were numerous moments of overload and overwhelming pressure – a common reality for those engaged in scientific research. Duy remembers most vividly the peer review phase for his first international paper. He had to complete 5-6 extremely complex experimental tests right during the stressful midterm exam period at the Polytechnic University. The young man recounted: “Falling into a situation where I was researching with one hand and studying with the other, I learned to overcome it by breaking down the goal into smaller tasks, prioritizing the truly important ones first, and accepting that things wouldn’t always go perfectly. For me, each time the experimental results weren’t as expected, it wasn’t a failure; it was a valuable opportunity to reflect on my working methods and approach to the problem.” Duy’s secret to achieving international scientific success is his proactiveness. Whenever a new idea came to him, he drafted a proposal, boldly contacted and discussed it with leading experts in the field. Throughout that journey, Duy received the unwavering support and trust of the professors at the School of Economics – a school that provides a broad academic environment and encourages students to freely pursue interdisciplinary research.
With the spirit of a Polytechnic university and a desire to reach the wider world, Duy graduated with distinction and will receive his degree at the end of September. He is currently working as a Research Assistant at the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR) at VinUniversity, focusing on developing adaptive Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models for robots. This highly experimental work requires Duy to apply the “storytelling with data” mindset of the Business Analytics field to evaluate robot behavior and optimize operating systems. Here, he directly researches conjunctive learning to find unified algorithmic representations across various hardware configurations. This project aims to build a flexible VLA system capable of adapting to new robots without requiring costly retraining. The greatest reward for Duy’s efforts is a direct admission to a PhD program in Artificial Intelligence at UNC Charlotte (USA) with a full scholarship.
Duy is still awaiting the results of his PhD scholarship from a university in Florida. Accompanying him is a friend who achieved the highest thesis score at the School of Information Technology and Communications. This partnership reflects the open-minded academic spirit of the Polytechnic University. For Duy, the combination of his IT friend’s strong system algorithmic thinking and the practical analytical thinking from the Business Analytics field creates a perfect, complementary picture, aiming to solve global-scale technological problems. This diverse partnership further strengthens Duy’s long-held dream: to pursue a long-term career in academia, striving to become a true researcher and lecturer in the future. Duy believes that the scientific community is always open and needs the intersection of different perspectives to create practical value. Looking back on his brilliant journey, Nguyen Duc Duy summarizes the greatest value that the EM-E13 Advanced Business Analytics Program has brought with three core keywords: Foundation – Proactiveness – Integration.
