Pouchers, a Nigeria-focused payments startup, has raised $500,000 in pre-seed funding as it exits beta and prepares to scale its product.
The round was led by Stack Directory LLC, a Dubai-based internet investment company, with participation from undisclosed strategic angel investors, the company said in a blog post. Valuation and deal structure were not disclosed.
Pouchers is building a cross-border payments platform aimed at users whose income and spending span multiple currencies and jurisdictions. The product offers stablecoin-powered payments, virtual dollar cards for online spending, and the ability to move between global and local money.
The company is targeting freelancers, remote workers, SMBs, and creators in Nigeria who earn from international clients or pay for global tools and services, and who typically face frictions with FX access, card limits, and cross-border settlement.
“This raise gives us the opportunity to move faster on a problem we know many Nigerians experience firsthand. People are already working, earning and doing business globally. The financial infrastructure should make that easier, not harder,” Pouchers CEO Ayo Adewuyi said in the announcement.
Pouchers said its beta phase provided transaction data and user feedback that shaped the current product. With the pre-seed capital, the team plans to scale operations and product development as it moves into its next growth phase.
