Teleport and Avalon Airport Melbourne Launch New E-Commerce Hub
Teleport and Avalon Airport Melbourne have formalised a pact to set up a fresh operational base at the Victorian facility, aiming to tap into rising cross-border online shopping flows linking Australia with Southeast Asia. The two entities indicated that this base will streamline the handling of inbound international parcel traffic, allowing quicker and more effective processing to meet surging demand.
As per the announcement, Australian consumers spent close to $18.9bn on digital retail platforms in the previous year, marking a 13% rise from 2024 figures. Teleport’s CEO, Pete Chareonwongsak, noted that the carrier was drawn to the airport due to its lack of nighttime operating restrictions. He framed the decision as a calculated effort to bolster the Teleport Network across Oceania, emphasising that international e-commerce demands swift, specialised handling and that clients require expedited, dependable connections. He further highlighted Avalon’s round-the-clock capacity, rapid aircraft turnaround, and its ability to manage e-commerce shipments alongside conventional freight.
Chareonwongsak voiced strong optimism about the venture’s prospects, referencing Teleport’s track record of expanding throughput at major centres such as Kuala Lumpur and at auxiliary sites in Thailand and Indonesia. He argued that secondary hubs serve as a proven catalyst for air cargo expansion.

This collaboration represents the subsequent stage of Teleport’s broader network growth strategy spanning Oceania, the Middle East, and Europe. The partners stated that the arrangement utilises an alternate international freight entry point suited to supporting high-volume e-commerce logistics as global cargo traffic increases. Additionally, it holds promise for broadening Australia’s freight options, enhancing Victoria’s global trade linkages, and fostering ongoing expansion within the region’s logistics industry.
Ari Suss, CEO of Avalon Airport Melbourne, remarked that the agreement underscores the airport’s expanding significance in international cargo operations. He pointed out that Teleport selected Avalon due to its ability to deliver the capacity, velocity, and adaptability required for a rapidly growing e-commerce network. He added that the two sides are forging a durable logistics alliance that will reinforce trade connections and unlock fresh prospects for Victoria.
