Okla. (KXII) – A Southeastern senior says she expected her final year to focus on classes, not navigating a system error
April Day, a student at Southeastern, said she first noticed a problem when financial aid offer letters had not arrived in the weeks before classes were set to begin. She said federal financial aid delays slowed offer letters nationwide, but her frustration grew over what she described as a lack of communication from her own campus.
Day said she eventually received her offer letter, accepted it and completed the required steps — then waited for the aid to be applied to her account. When she logged in, she found a comment next to her Pell Grant that read: “Pell Calculation Error — Contact System Administrator.”
Before the error could be resolved, a “cyber security incident” closed the campus, further stalling the process.
“I have some classmates who are dependent on financial aid,” Day said. “Their financial aid has not been calculated or applied and they are considering dropping out of classes because they cannot financially fund that on their own.”
Day said she emailed multiple administrators and received an apology from the financial aid director, but her questions about the <a href="https://bitcomme.com/virginia-cyber-range-celebrates-10-years-of-advancing-cybersecurity-education/” title=”Virginia Cyber Range celebrates 10 years of advancing cybersecurity education”>cybersecurity investigation remain unanswered.
“Were student accounts impacted? What information was accessed?” Day said. “Because so far communication has been vague.”
In a statement, Southeastern said it is still investigating the July 30 security incident and has not yet determined whether student data was compromised. The university said it is restoring systems in phases and is encouraging students with individual issues to contact campus offices directly.
